Painter / Mother
The courage with which these subjects are depicted can only come from a certain maturity. I feel from a distance that this courage has a similar source than the one that makes a mother protect her child from danger. Jana is a painter and a mother of four. Or I should say Jana is a mother of four and a painter. Her children come first. And although parenthood and painting have not often been discussed in conjunction, my sense is that in this case, Jana's ability to be so honest as well as her confident brush strokes, are parallel to the ability to sacrifice, to give without holding back. Her paintings have an 'I have nothing to hide' atmosphere. Every pure dream and foul act are allowed.
